Bringing Aldi to Chip Lane
Aldi has been looking for a site to serve the west of Taunton for some time and is delighted that this highly accessible site at Chip Lane has become available. The new discount foodstore will trade alongside the existing Bridgwater Road store, providing easier access to our popular, award-winning range.
The site is currently occupied by traders who will be relocating to other premises. When relocation has happened, the existing building will be replaced with a bright, modern, new store, constructed using sustainable techniques.
The site will be landscaped and have 102 car parking spaces, including 8 designated parent and child bays, and 5 blue badge bays. There will also be 4 electric vehicle charging points with provision for 16 more when needed in the future.
The store will create up to 40 new jobs, which Aldi will actively seek to recruit from the local area. Further job opportunities will also be created during the construction process.
Aldi’s focus on a limited range of great value, high-quality products complements, rather than competes, with local business. Shoppers will often visit other neighbourhood shops and services to fulfil their shopping needs.
We are currently preparing a planning application for the new store and would welcome your feedback on these exciting proposals.
Proposals for the site include:
A new, modern, bright and spacious food store with a net sales area of 1,315m2
Free customer car parking spaces for 102 cars, including disabled and parent and child spaces
Sustainable travel measures, including bicycle parking spaces and 4 electric vehicle charging points, with provision for 16 more
Up to 40 full and part time permanent local jobs, paid at above the National Living Wage
Additional employment opportunities during the construction period and via the supply chain
A high-quality design offering a contemporary shopping experience
Extensive landscaping across the site
Increased local food choice, reducing the need to travel further afield
