The proposed store is located on Park Road, Diss, at the former Norfolk Feathers site.
Aldi took on the former Co-Op store at Mere Street in 2014. As the store is significantly below Aldi’s core operational standards, we have been looking for a suitable alternative site that will allow Aldi to develop a modern, purpose-built store and maintain its presence in Diss. The former Norfolk Feather Company site along Park Road is located just 250m away from the existing store. As a now vacant site, and allocated for retail development in the Local Plan, it provides the perfect solution to Aldi’s needs in Diss.
The site is well located to continue to serve the local community and the store will create new pedestrian and cycle links through Diss, as well as provide more car parking space than the Mere Street store.
Aldi’s proposal for a relocated store for Diss offers:
- A larger, purpose- built 1,315 square metre (net sales area) food-store
- Parking spaces for 119 cars, including seven accessible bays, 10 parent-and-child, 17 staff spaces and four electric vehicle charging points
- Free customer car parking together with bicycle storage
- Up to 50 full and part-time local jobs, an increase on the existing store
- Additional employment opportunities during the construction and through the supply chain
- Attractive landscaping throughout the site to enhance its appearance
- A high-quality design that offers a contemporary shopping experience
