Proposals for a new Aldi store
for Innsworth
Aldi, in partnership with Robert Hitchins, the developer behind Innsworth Park, is bringing forward proposals for a new food store at Innsworth Park District Centre, forming part of the wider Innsworth Park mixed-use development on the northern side of Gloucester.
Robert Hitchins is delivering the commercial elements of the wider Innsworth Park scheme, including employment and retail space, and has partnered with Taylor Wimpey to bring forward the new homes at Whittle Gardens. The proposed food store represents the first phase of the planned District Centre.
The proposals would see a new Aldi food store delivered within the District Centre in a highly accessible location between Gloucester and Cheltenham. The principle of a food store at this location has already been established through outline planning consent as part of the wider Innsworth Park development, and the forthcoming application will seek approval of the detailed design and layout. The proposed development would deliver a modern, purpose-built store and represent a significant economic investment of approximately £7 million in the local area.
A new Aldi store at this location would improve local access to affordable food shopping for the growing Innsworth community, helping to reduce the need for residents to travel further afield for everyday groceries. The store would serve both existing residents in the surrounding area and those living within the wider Innsworth Park development, as well as employees working in nearby businesses.
Aldi is a long-term investor in communities across the UK, and the proposed store would create up to 40 quality full- and part-time jobs for local people, paid at an industry-leading rate.
The proposals would support consumer choice and reinforce the role of the District Centre as a hub for day-to-day needs. By providing convenient access to affordable, healthy food and fresh produce locally, the development would support sustainable travel patterns while complementing existing shops and services.
Community Consultation
Aldi and Robert Hitchins value community involvement when bringing forward new developments. A community consultation on proposals for a new food store at Innsworth Park District Centre was held between Friday 6 March and Friday 20 March 2026.
The consultation is now closed. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to view the proposals and provide feedback.
All responses received are being carefully reviewed and will play an important role in shaping the planning application, which will be submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council in due course.
This website will remain accessible throughout the planning process, with updates provided as the project progresses.
Improved choice for Innsworth
The proposed store would provide residents with improved access to affordable, high-quality food shopping as part of the planned Innsworth Park District Centre.
A new Aldi food store at this location would serve the growing local community and help reduce the need for residents to travel to neighbouring towns and villages for everyday groceries, supporting more local shopping trips.
The proposals would enhance choice and competition within the local retail offer, broadening the range of food shopping available locally while complementing existing shops and services within the District Centre and surrounding area.
