Access, parking and deliveries
Access
The new store will have access from Rutt Lane. The access route will be designed to allow pedestrians and bicycles to access the site safely.
The site benefits from being accessible by foot for a significant number of local residents. It is also accessible by cycle, and 8 cycle parking spaces will be provided close to the store entrance to encourage non-car visits.
Minimising impact of deliveries
Aldi stocks a carefully selected range of approximately 1,800 lines, compared with supermarkets such as Asda or Sainsbury’s that stock over 20,000 lines. As a result, Aldi stores typically receive 3-4 deliveries per day including 2-3 deliveries from their distribution centre and one local milk delivery.
Deliveries are timed to avoid busy periods and all manoeuvring will be contained within the site, avoiding disruption on the local roads. Aldi stores include trained bankspeople who will ensure HGV movements within the site are carried out safely.
Delivery times, routes and other arrangements will be set out in a Delivery and Servicing Management Plan, which will be submitted to South Hams District Council and will need to be approved before the store can open. Aldi will be obliged to abide by this plan as a condition of its planning permission.
Aldi will also submit a Construction Traffic Management Plan, detailing how construction vehicles will reach the site. This willneed to be agreed by the council before any works can begin.
Free car parking for customers
The site will provide 105 free car parking spaces for Aldi customers: this will include blue badge and parent & child spaces.
We will also provide 4 active electric vehicle charging points, plus infrastructure for future points to be created as demand increases.
