Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is proposing to develop a new discount food store at Kirkintilloch Gateway, at the junction of Mcgavigans Road and Initiative Road (A806), Kirkintilloch.

The proposal would introduce a brand-new discount store to Kirkintilloch, reducing the need for customers to travel unsustainable distances to other stores out with the town (including Aldi at Robroyston) to complete their grocery shopping and provide the local community with access to Aldi’s high-quality offer and award-winning low prices.

The development will also begin the regeneration of a long-term vacant brownfield location, where it is hoped it can act as a catalyst for further development in the area. To help facilitate this, the scheme includes the creation of a new access road for the store (and adjacent undeveloped plot) and improvements to pedestrian pathways, to enhance the general accessibility of the area.

Aldi consulted on the proposals in the early part of 2021 and received 350 responses, with over 85% of those responses indicating support for the proposals. Following the consultation process, the formal planning application has now been submitted and can be viewed on East Dunbartonshire Councils’ planning portal at the below link:
