Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is proposing to develop a new discount food store at Kirkintilloch Gateway, at the junction of Mcgavigans Road and Initiative Road (A806), Kirkintilloch.

The proposal would introduce a brand-new discount store to Kirkintilloch, reducing the need for customers to travel unsustainable distances to other stores outwith the town (including Aldi at Robroyston) to complete their grocery shopping and provide the local community with access to Aldi’s high-quality offer and award-winning low prices.

The development will also begin the regeneration of a long-term vacant brownfield location, where it is hoped it can act as a catalyst for further development in the area. To help facilitate this, the scheme includes the creation of a new access road for the store (and adjacent undeveloped plot) and improvements to pedestrian pathways, to enhance the general accessibility of the area.

The proposals are at an early stage and no planning application has been submitted to East Dunbartonshire Council at this stage. Aldi would like to hear your views about our ambitions for a new store in Kirkintilloch which could be open as early as April 2023.

Exhibition boards that provide further detail on the scheme can be viewed here alongside a number of frequently asked questions, which can be viewed here.

Feedback can also be provided using the ‘Have your Say’ button at the bottom of this page. Please provide all feedback by 15th February 2021 to ensure that Aldi can take account of all comments before the application is submitted. Full details of all feedback received, and our response to it, will be contained within the a Report of Consultation to be submitted as part of the planning application.
