The proposed site is located on Frenchmans Road, Petersfield.
As you may know, the former Paris House site has been the subject of a previous planning application to deliver residential accommodation. Aldi’s vision for the site is more in keeping with the local residents’ and Petersfield Town Council’s aspiration for the site by keeping it in employment use through the provision of retail.
The new single storey Aldi store has been designed to respect the proximity of neighbouring residents as well as the brook that runs along the northern boundary of the site. We have taken great care to develop a proposal where landscaping can feature heavily, therefore not only keeping the site in employment use, but also improving it visually and ecologically.
Located near the train station and the town centre, the former Paris House site is the perfect location to bring Aldi to Petersfield. By making the most out of a sustainable, brownfield site, it limits the need for developing on an out-of-town green field.
Overall, we believe the proposal to redevelop the site for a new Aldi store is a much more appropriate use for the former Paris House site.
Aldi’s proposal for the former Paris House site offers:
- A new, modestly sized food store with a new sales area of 1315m2
- Parking spaces for 112 cars, including 6 accessible bays, 12 parent-and-child spaces and 2 electric vehicle charging points
- Free customer car parking together with bicycle parking
- Between 40 and 50 full and part-time permanent local jobs
- Additional employment opportunities during the construction period and via the supply chain
- A strong landscaping focus to protect the brook and the sensitive boundaries with neighbouring residents, and a public seating area
- A high-quality design which offers a contemporary shopping experience
