Welcome to Aldi’s consultation for a new store in Upton
Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is bringing forward proposals for a new high-quality food store at Champions Business Park, at the junction of Arrowe Brook Road and Arrowe Park Road in Upton.
We’re excited to share our plans to regenerate a brownfield site and improve shopping choice for residents in Upton — many of whom currently travel outside the area to access affordable, full-range food shopping.
We want to hear your views. This website explains our proposals and includes a feedback form where you can share your thoughts with us directly. Your feedback will help shape our plans before we submit a planning application to Wirral Council.
Since launching the consultation, we have received a strong level of support from the community, which we greatly appreciate. We also understand that some residents have asked why the former Homebase site was not chosen for the new store. This site is subject to a restriction that prevents its use for food retail, so it was not an option available for our proposals.

Community Consultation
Aldi deeply values community involvement when proposing new stores. To this end, we will be initiating a community consultation to gather insights from the residents of Upton before we submit a formal planning application.
This community consultation will be open to comments until 23 September 2025. This website will remain accessible throughout the entire planning process.
Once the community consultation concludes, Aldi will carefully review all the feedback received. This will play a vital role in shaping the planning application we submit to Wirral Council in the subsequent months.
Improved choice for Upton
Aldi would like to offer residents in Upton access to our low-cost, high-quality products.
Local residents are facing rising food costs, with little access to affordable shopping options with current choices largely limited to smaller convenience stores. A new Aldi food store at this site would provide a meaningful alternative, improving and protecting access to fresh, high-quality products at unbeatable prices.
The closest Aldi stores to the site are currently located in Prenton and Moreton, which are increasingly popular and busy. These stores are located over 2.5 miles from the proposal site, meaning longer journeys and higher emissions for customers travelling from Upton. A store at this location would not only reduce travel times to a discount retailer, but also alleviate pressures on existing stores.
A new store at this site would improve the local retail offering and ensure that the local community has access to Aldi’s award-winning range of low-cost, high-quality products.
