Show your support for a new Aldi store in Aberaman

The Aldi Aberaman public pre-application consultation (PAC) was held from Monday 28 November 2022 to Wednesday 04 January 2023. This consultation has now finished. Aldi has submitted the planning application to Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council which can be viewed on the council’s planning portal using the Planning Reference number 23/0294/10. Aldi is now seeking the support of local residents to highlight how much this Aldi is wanted by the local community.

We are delighted that an overwhelming 91.9% of respondents to our pre-application consultation expressed support for this new proposed store. Some residents raised concern around the impact on the local transport network. Upon reviewing the feedback we’ve taken action to address this with the proposed introduction of a new pelican crossing across the B4275. We hope this alleviates the concerns residents had on the local highway.

Our planning application will shortly be decided by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, and you can make a real difference by showing your support. We’re asking the local community to support our plans for a new Aldi in Aberaman. We need local people to tell Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council how a new Aldi in Aberaman would transform a brownfield site and help support new jobs in the town.

Our proposals will deliver:

  • A multi-million-pound investment into Aberaman, Aberdare.
  • A redeveloped and refurbished site shared with What! Stores Aberaman creating a welcoming environment in keeping with the local area.
  • A new pedestrian footpath linking the site access to the store entrance area.
  • The continued operation of the What! Store in Aberaman and a brand-new Aldi store with a net sales area of 1,380 sqm.
  • Around 30 new jobs in the store, as well as further employment during construction and through the supply chain.
  • 153 car parking spaces, including seven dedicated accessible bays, nine parent & child bays, two click & collect bays, 15 staff spaces, and bicycle parking.
  • Four electric vehicle charging points with additional infrastructure installed for a further 20 in the future.
  • Free car parking for up to 90 minutes, enabling shoppers to visit other businesses on the Aberaman Park Industrial Estate.
  • Attractive landscaping around the site to enhance its appearance.
