Bringing ALDI to Abingdon-on-Thames
Aldi knows its customers are currently travelling out of the Abingdon area to visit its stores. It has wanted to open a local store in Abingdon for some time and is delighted to have identified this Wootton Road site as a suitable location. The site will be developed, using sustainable construction materials and techniques, to provide a fresh, modern, new Aldi discount foodstore.
This significant investment would create up to 40 new jobs, which Aldi would actively seek to recruit from the local area.
The site, which is already earmarked for development, will be extensively landscaped and designed to complement and integrate with the approved housing to the east and the intended residential development to the south.
Ample parking will be provided, including 120 car parking spaces, 7 designated parent and child bays, and 5 bays for blue badge holders. There will also be click and collect parking, cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points.
These proposals would bring a much needed discount foodstore to north Abingdon, reducing the need to travel and ensuring the area has sufficient supermarket provision for its existing and future needs. Unlike other supermarkets, Aldi is not a ‘one stop shop’. Our smaller stores focus on a limited range of great value, high quality goods, complementing rather than competing with existing local shops and services.
