Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is bringing forward proposals for a discount food store on land off Formby Bypass.

With the current cost-of-living crisis, many people are looking to make their money go further by purchasing better-value products. As the UK’s leading and cheapest discount supermarket, Aldi believes it has an essential role to play in providing access to high-quality products at affordable prices.

Aldi has identified a brownfield site in east Formby and is proposing to transform the site to provide a new food store in a location that will be accessible for both residents of Formby and the passing tourist trade.

Aldi’s proposal would redevelop the site of the former commercial plant nursery/garden centre to the north of Moss Side in east Formby. This closed a number of years ago, with some buildings demolished and some falling into disrepair.

The site is currently used to store scrap vehicles and has a further planning consent for residential development. Although the land is brownfield and has planning permission for future development, the site is located within the Green Belt.

Recognising that Green Belt development is a sensitive issue, Aldi wants to understand the views of the local community before it submits any planning application to Sefton Council.
