Bringing Aldi to Garras Wharf, Truro
More space, more parking and more jobs
The current Highertown store is considerably smaller than a typical Aldi, the store is cramped and the car park is small. The existing site is constrained and it is not possible to expand at this location, so our only option is to relocate.
We have now identified a suitable, brownfield site at Garras Wharf, Newham Road, five minutes from the existing store. We would like to build a new and improved store here, which will provide easier access, a bigger range, a better layout and more parking.
The new Aldi development will have many benefits:
A bright, spacious and modern 1,315 sqm store
Parking spaces for 128 cars, including designated parent and child, and blue badge parking
Existing Aldi jobs will be retained and up to 15 more jobs created with a leading retailer, who was recently crowned ‘Employer of the Year’ at The Grocer Gold Awards
A high quality and sustainable building in a landscaped environment
An improved shopping environment with more space for customers and Aldi’s full, award-winning product range
Aldi is not a ‘one stop shop’. Unlike other supermarkets, its smaller stores focus on packaged food and convenience goods, complementing rather than competing with existing local shops and services
The proposed ALDI store will complement the ‘main-shop’ nature of the large Tesco’s in close proximity to the application site
