Proposals for a new Aldi store for Hetton-le-Hole

Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is bringing forward proposals to develop land south of Colliery Lane in Hetton-le-Hole with a new food store.

The proposals will see the development of land off Colliery Lane into a spacious and modern retail environment in a convenient location. The store will also create up to 40 full-time equivalent jobs, alongside further opportunities associated with construction and the supply chain.

The proposed site has been long allocated for development, first designated for housing use within the approved Council development plan in 1998. However, to date, no development has taken place. Aldi’s proposals would transform the site into an attractive, modern food store in an accessible location for the residents of Hetton-le-Hole, improving choice and enhancing customer experience.

Aldi is looking to submit its planning application to Sunderland City Council in early 2023.

Aldi is aware that there is a lack of discount supermarket options for residents in Hetton-le-Hole. As customers continue to look for better-value products to make their food go further, a new store at this location would provide residents with access to a well-priced, award winning range of products.
