Proposals for a new Aldi store for Thames Ditton
Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is excited to announce plans for a new high-quality food store at the former Guy Salmon site at 47 Portsmouth Road in Thames Ditton.
Following on from feedback from local people and the Planning Inspector on the previous scheme for this site, Aldi is now preparing a revised planning application for submission to Elmbridge Borough Council.
Aldi is keen to consult with the community ahead of submission so that we can hear your views first hand, and take those into account as we finalise our proposals. We will report the outcome of this consultation in a Statement of Community Involvement submitted with the planning application and encourage you to participate and provide your thoughts.

Community Consultation
Aldi deeply values community involvement when proposing new stores. To this end, we will be initiating a community consultation to gather insights from the residents of Thames Ditton before we submit a formal planning application.
This community consultation will be open to comments until Sunday 15th December 2024. This website will remain accessible throughout the entire planning process.
We will be hosting an in-person public exhibition event on Monday 9th December between 3pm and 7pm at Dittons Library, Mercer Close, Thames Ditton, KT7 0BS.
Once the community consultation concludes, Aldi will carefully review all the feedback received. This will play a vital role in shaping the planning application we submit to Elmbridge Borough Council in the subsequent months.
Improved choice for Thames Ditton
Aldi would like to offer residents in Thames Ditton access to our low-cost, high-quality products.
The closest Aldi stores to the site are currently located in Walton-on-Thames and Kingston-on-Thames, which are increasingly popular and busy.
A new store at this site would improve the local retail offering and ensure that the local community has access to Aldi’s award-winning range of low-cost, high-quality products.
Responding to previous feedback
The project team are very mindful of concerns about the previous application and have worked carefully on a new design that responds to this.
The proposed store will be significantly lower in height than the previous scheme, with a more traditional facade and more trees and hedging to improve screening and reduce the impact on neighbours.
