About Aldi

We’re excited to bring a new neighbourhood food store to Lampeter. These proposals will incorporate all of our core values and modern shopping practices.

Sustainability

Aldi UK and Ireland has achieved ‘net zero’ carbon status and continues to minimise the ecological footprint of the entire business and strive to become a climate-neutral company. It does this by minimising the impact of refrigerants, improving logistics efficiency, using renewable energies and supporting climate protection projects. Since 2017, Aldi has used only 100% renewable electricity to power its stores.

Plastic and Packaging Pledges

Aldi aspires towards zero-waste business practices with a focus on reduce, reuse and recycle. Aldi has made a number of commitments towards eliminating the use of single use plastics in its stores with its ‘Plastic and Packaging Pledges’. In addition, it only uses materials for the development of its stores that perform well with regard to the environment, either through its composition, or manufacture.

Local Produce

Aldi seeks to source local produce which reduces miles from field to plate and benefits local suppliers. Following the setup of a Welsh Buying department, its Welsh stores now have the highest percentage share of total Welsh product core line numbers of all the major supermarkets. Aldi is very proud of and pleased to tie in with the University’s aspirations for the Academy of Contemporary Food Wales and the Rural Enterprise Hub.

Improved choice for Lampeter

  • Lampeter residents would benefit from improved shopping choice and increased competition
  • Aldi’s customers save between 30% and 40% on their shopping without compromising on quality, with everyday items available at low prices
  • Local residents can walk to store, reducing the need for residents to get in their cars
  • By keeping shopping in Lampeter, linked trips to other shops and facilities are encouraged

Local Jobs

The new Aldi food store would create up to 40 new jobs for local people, including managerial positions. Aldi pays wages above the National Living Wage (at least £9.40 per hour), provides opportunities for career progression, high levels of training, and a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours work per week.
